| Obverse description | The upper portion of the field features the stylized bare branches of an African baobab tree extending across the coin. In the lower half, the Portuguese national arms superimposed on an armillary sphere occupies the left side, flanked on the right by indigenous African script characters arranged in a decorative panel. The country name PORTUGAL and the date 2011 appear in the lower right field, with the denomination 2,50 euro inscribed along the bottom.
