Reverse description The reverse presents a scenic group of three traditional espigueiros (granaries) of the northwestern Iberian Peninsula, each elevated on granite stone stilts and crowned with cross finials, arranged in a rustic landscape setting. Two stylised maize cob motifs flank the upper field as decorative devices, referencing the agricultural purpose of these structures. The engravers' signatures 'F. CARRIÇO' and 'F. FRANCO' appear at lower left, with the mint mark 'INCM' at lower right. The curved legend 'ESPIGUEIROS' arcs across the upper field, while 'NOROESTE PENINSULAR' is inscribed along the lower rim.

Additional information

Part of Portugal's ongoing "Património Cultural Imaterial" series, this issue commemorates the espigueiros — the elevated stone granaries of the Minho and Lima river valleys, built on stilts or mushroom-shaped supports to allow air circulation and deter rodents. The design program for this series was authorized under INCM's broader cultural heritage mandate, which has produced collector-focused bullion hybrids at unusual denominations since the 2010s.

The 2½ euro face value is essentially nominal — a legal tender fiction anchoring the piece within Portuguese law while the gold content drives its actual worth.
