| Obverse description | The obverse depicts a single traditional Portuguese espigueiro (granary) elevated on stone stilts, rendered in fine relief against a polished field. The structure is surmounted by a decorative cross finial and features characteristic vertical slat ventilation panels along its sides. To the right of the granary, the Portuguese national coat of arms is displayed within a shield. Along the lower rim, the legend reads '2018 PORTUGAL 2,5 EURO' in incuse lettering. |

| Additional information |
Part of Portugal's ongoing "Património Cultural Imaterial" series, this issue commemorates the espigueiros — the elevated stone granaries of the Minho and Lima river valleys, built on stilts or mushroom-shaped supports to allow air circulation and deter rodents. The design program for this series was authorized under INCM's broader cultural heritage mandate, which has produced collector-focused bullion hybrids at unusual denominations since the 2010s.
The 2½ euro face value is essentially nominal — a legal tender fiction anchoring the piece within Portuguese law while the gold content drives its actual worth.
