Reverse description The Portuguese Republican coat of arms is depicted at centre, comprising the traditional shield with quinas and castles superimposed upon an armillary sphere, the latter rendered in fine detail with intersecting meridian and latitude bands symbolising Portugal's Age of Discovery heritage. The entire device rests within a beaded inner border. The curved legend REPUBLICA·PORTUGUESA arcs along the upper periphery of the field, while the four-digit date 1967 appears in large numerals at the base of the coin, flanked by small decorative stars.
