Additional information

This piece is not a German Federal Republic issue in any conventional sense — it was struck by the West German firm Münzhandlung der Bayerischen Hypotheken- und Wechsel-Bank as a reissue of an Austrian ducal type, sold directly into the numismatic and bullion market rather than through any monetary authority. The "Aureus Magnus" branding was a commercial designation, not an official denomination. West Germany's postwar gold coin market operated in a legal gray zone through much of the 1950s, with private minting houses filling demand that federal currency law hadn't yet addressed.
