Obverse description Central device depicts the All-Seeing Eye of God rendered in bold relief, surmounted by a stylized representation of the clasped hands or priestly hat associated with Latter-day Saint iconography. The eye is enclosed within an angular, pointed surround evoking a bishop's mitre. Encircling the central device along the periphery is the legend HOLINESS.TO.THE.LORD, separated by dot stops, in large incuse capital letters within a raised rim. The overall design is primitive yet deliberate in its religious symbolism, characteristic of the emergency coinage struck at the Salt Lake City Mint.
