| 正面描述 | The obverse features the crowned Polish eagle — the national emblem of the Polish People's Republic — displayed with wings spread, facing right, occupying the central field. The circular legend reads 'POLSKA RZECZPOSPOLITA LUDOWA' around the upper periphery, separated by raised dots. The date '1979' is divided on either side of the eagle's body at mid-field, with the mint mark 'MW' (Mennica Warszawska) appearing below the eagle. The denomination '2000' is prominently inscribed in large numerals along the lower field, flanked on each side by the currency abbreviation 'ZŁ'. The design is executed in high-relief proof style against a mirror-polished field. |

Issued in 1979 to mark the centenary of Marie Skłodowska-Curie's birth, this piece appeared during a period when the Polish state was making pointed use of her legacy — reclaiming her identity as fundamentally Polish at a time when French institutions had long dominated her public biography. The NBP produced gold commemoratives sparingly in this era, and the 2000 Złotych denomination placed this firmly outside everyday circulation from the moment of issue.
Curie remains the only person awarded Nobel Prizes in two separate sciences, in 1903 (Physics) and 1911 (Chemistry).
