| 背面描述 | The reverse presents a dignified right-facing bust portrait of Duke Mieszko I, the first historical ruler of Poland, depicted in a regal medieval style with a diadem crown, long beard, and draped mantle fastened at the shoulder with a decorative brooch. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine engraving detail. The inscription MIESZKO I appears along the left field, the regnal dates 960-992 are placed vertically along the right field, and the word PRÓBA (trial strike) is inscribed centrally to the right of the bust, confirming the pattern status of the piece. |

This nickel trial strike was produced in 1979 as part of Poland's internal approval process for the commemorative 2000 Złotych gold issue honoring Mieszko I, the tenth-century Piast duke whose baptism in 966 AD is treated by Polish historiography as the founding moment of the Polish state. Trial pieces in this series were struck on base-metal planchets to test die alignment and relief before committing to gold production — a standard but rarely preserved step. The three catalog references suggest this piece circulated through at least some collector documentation, though population figures remain thin.
