Reverse description A facing bust portrait of King Bolesław II Śmiały (Bolesław the Bold) occupies the centre of the field, depicted in a naturalistic yet stylised manner with a crown upon his head, flowing hair falling to his shoulders, and a draped chainmail hauberk visible at the shoulders and chest. The portrait is modelled in high relief with fine detail in the facial features and regalia. The inscription BOLESŁAW II is placed to the upper left of the bust and ŚMIAŁY to the upper right, both running along the inner rim. The word PRÓBA (meaning trial or pattern) appears prominently to the left of the portrait, indicating the coin's status as a trial strike. The regnal dates 1058 and 1079, marking the beginning and end of Bolesław II's reign, are inscribed in the lower field to either side of the portrait's base.
