| 正面描述 | The national emblem of the People's Republic of China — Tiananmen Gate beneath a large five-pointed star flanked by four smaller stars — occupies the central field, surrounded by an ornate floral and scroll border in high relief. The inscription 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) arcs along the upper periphery in Chinese characters. The date 2017 appears in the lower exergue in Latin numerals. The design is struck in polished proof finish with frosted relief elements against a mirror field. |

The Year of the Rooster gold series of 2017 sits at the top end of China's annual lunar bullion program, which the People's Bank of China has issued without interruption since 1981. The 150g denomination — technically denominated at 2000 yuan — functions almost entirely outside circulation, produced for institutional buyers and collectors in both domestic and export markets. China's gold panda and lunar programs were instrumental in forcing the international bullion coin market to take Asian sovereign issues seriously through the 1980s and 1990s.
Mintage figures for the 150g lunar issues are kept deliberately low relative to the smaller fractions, typically in the low hundreds.
