The Tolar was introduced on 8 October 1991, just months after Slovenia declared independence from Yugoslavia, replacing the Yugoslav dinar at a rate of 1:1 as a temporary stabilization measure. What was meant as a transitional currency lasted until 2007, when Slovenia became the first former Yugoslav republic to adopt the euro. This commemorative marks the first decade of that monetary transition.
