Kazakhstan's own banknote factory in Almaty, established in 1997, was a deliberate assertion of post-Soviet monetary self-sufficiency — one of the few Central Asian republics to bring note production fully in-house rather than contracting with De La Rue or Giesecke & Devrient. The 2000 Tenge falls squarely within the factory's mature production period. Security features on this series are comparatively lean; the watermark-only specification at this denomination raised occasional comment among currency observers when the notes were current.
