| Reverse description | The reverse features a detailed depiction of the Yungang Grottoes of Shanxi Province, China, dominated by a large colossal Buddha figure carved into a rocky cliff face occupying the left and central field, rendered with flowing robes and serene facial features characteristic of Northern Wei dynasty Buddhist art. A smaller standing Buddha figure and additional rock-cut relief carvings are visible to the right in the middle ground, conveying the monumental scale of the site. The inscription YUNGANG GROTTOES appears in the upper right field, while the series title WONDERS OF THE WORLD arcs along the upper periphery, and the date 1996 is positioned in the lower exergue against a frosted background. |
