Uganda's lunar series issues of the mid-1990s were produced under contract for the international collector market, not for domestic circulation — the shilling was far too weak against the dollar to make silver commemoratives viable at home. The Bank of Uganda licensed its name and authority to these pieces primarily as a revenue exercise during a period of post-Obote economic reconstruction.
KM#58 is occasionally found with inconsistent edge lettering depth, a known characteristic of the contractor's production run rather than anything specific to this denomination.
