Issued as part of Uganda's foreign-currency commemorative program of the early 1990s, a series that had almost no connection to domestic monetary circulation and was produced explicitly for the international collector market. The Frauenkirche depicted here was, at the time of minting, still a ruin — the Munich landmark had stood bombed-out since 1945, and reconstruction wasn't completed until 1994, the same year this coin was struck.
