Descrição do anverso	Right-facing bare-headed effigy of President Julius Kambarage Nyerere occupying the central field, rendered in high relief with fine sculptural detail. The legend 'TANZANIA 1986' arcs around the upper periphery, while 'RAIS WA KWANZA' (meaning 'First President') curves along the lower periphery. Two stylised floral sprigs, consistent with the sunbird-flower motif repeated on the reverse, flank the portrait at the left and right. The design is attributed to engraver Christopher Ironside and executed in proof finish.

Descrição do reverso	A sunbird (souimanga) perched on a flowering branch occupies the central field, depicted in right-facing profile with naturalistic detail consistent with a species of the family Nectariniidae native to Tanzania. The Swahili denomination legend 'SHILINGI ELFU MBILI' arcs across the upper portion of the field, while the numeral '2000' is inscribed in the lower exergue in large, bold characters. Small decorative foliate elements appear at the lower left and right, framing the numeral. The entire design is struck in proof quality on the 22-carat gold flan.
