正面描述 Central field depicts the infant Siddhartha Gautama rendered in gilt relief, standing upright upon a large lotus blossom, right hand raised with index finger pointing skyward in the traditional birth gesture, surrounded by a nimbus (halo). The figure is robed in a flowing drape, set against a scenic background featuring a sacred Bodhi tree to the right, mountain landscape to the left, and floral vegetation in the lower field. The ornate border consists of a continuous decorative beaded or linked pattern encircling the design. The Sinhala legend "බුද්ධ ජයන්තිය" arcs along the upper left and the Latin legend "BUDDHA JAYANTHI" along the upper right, with the Buddhist era date "2550" inscribed in the lower field.

背面描述 Central field features an arrangement of blooming and budding lotus flowers rising from lily pads on a tranquil pond, rendered in fine relief. Above the lotus composition, a Dhamma Chakra (Wheel of the Law) is depicted in the upper central field. Two small rosette ornaments flank the central design at mid-field. The denomination "2000" appears prominently in a rectangular cartouche at the base of the central design. The country name is inscribed in Sinhala "ශ්‍රී ලංකා" arcing along the upper left and in Latin "SRI LANKA" along the upper right, with the issue year "2006" below. The denomination in Sinhala "රුපියල්" and Latin "RUPEES" appears along the lower border.

附加信息

Buddha Jayanthi in Sri Lanka carries specific political weight: the 1956 celebration marked 2,500 years since the Buddha's enlightenment and became inextricably tied to Sinhalese Buddhist nationalism, coinciding with the landslide election of S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike and the passage of the Sinhala Only Act — legislation that marginalized Tamil speakers and set the country on a trajectory toward civil conflict. A commemorative issued fifty years after that moment carries the weight of that anniversary, not merely the religious one.
