| Obverse description | Central field depicts the infant Siddhartha Gautama rendered in gilt relief, standing upright upon a large lotus blossom, right hand raised with index finger pointing skyward in the traditional birth gesture, surrounded by a nimbus (halo). The figure is robed in a flowing drape, set against a scenic background featuring a sacred Bodhi tree to the right, mountain landscape to the left, and floral vegetation in the lower field. The ornate border consists of a continuous decorative beaded or linked pattern encircling the design. The Sinhala legend "බුද්ධ ජයන්තිය" arcs along the upper left and the Latin legend "BUDDHA JAYANTHI" along the upper right, with the Buddhist era date "2550" inscribed in the lower field. |
