| Beschrijving keerzijde | The denomination '2000' is displayed in large, bold numerals dominating the centre of the field, beneath the trilingual denomination inscription 'රුපියල් / RUPEES / ரூபாய்' in Sinhala, Latin, and Tamil scripts respectively. The shield-shaped coat of arms of Sri Lanka is depicted below the numeral in raised relief. The country name appears in Sinhala script 'ශ්රී ලංකා' arcing along the upper border and in Latin script 'SRI LANKA' along the right border, with additional Sinhala lettering along the left border. Decorative floral and foliate scroll ornaments flank the central numeral on either side, and a reeded inner border frames the entire reverse design. |

Ananda College in Colombo was founded in 1886 as a Buddhist counterweight to the English-medium Christian missionary schools dominating colonial Ceylon — a direct product of the late 19th-century Buddhist revival led in part by Henry Steel Olcott. The 2011 commemorative marks the college's 125th anniversary. Ananda produced a disproportionate share of Sri Lanka's post-independence political and intellectual leadership, which explains why the Central Bank deemed a silver issue appropriate rather than a base-metal commemorative.
