Doha held the Arab Capital of Culture designation in 2010, a UNESCO-affiliated program that rotates annually across Arab League member states. Qatar used the occasion aggressively — the year coincided with major expansions of the Museum of Islamic Art and a broader push to reposition Doha as a regional cultural center ahead of infrastructure investments tied to the 2022 World Cup bid, which Qatar won in December of that same year.
