Four signature combinations span this issue, each pairing reflecting a change in Iran's economic leadership during a period of intensifying sanctions pressure. The Bahmani/Hosseini pairing corresponds to the later years of the series, when the rial was losing value sharply against the dollar — a 2000-rial note by the early 2010s was worth well under a tenth of a US cent at the open market rate.
