| 表面の銘文 | REPUBLICA DOS ESTADOS UNIDOS DO BRAZIL 1891 |
| 裏面の説明 | Central device comprising a lineated globe encircled by a band of stars, representing the Brazilian celestial sphere with the Southern Cross constellation rendered within the inner circle. Above the globe, a radiant five-pointed star emits bold sunrays into the field. The globe is flanked by crossed branches — an olive branch to the left and an oak branch to the right — their stems tied at the base. The legend ORDEM E PROGRESSO arcs across the upper field, while the denomination DOIS MIL REIS is inscribed along the lower periphery. A toothed border surrounds the design. |

The 1891 date on this series marks the first year of Brazilian republican coinage following the November 1889 coup that ended the Empire. The new provisional government moved quickly to overhaul the monetary system, and these heavy silver pieces — struck at the Casa da Moeda do Rio de Janeiro — carried the republic's imagery before the design vocabulary of the new regime had fully settled into convention.
Mintage dropped sharply after 1893 as Brazil's early republican finances deteriorated under the Encilhamento, a speculative bubble and monetary crisis that destabilized the milréis and reduced demand for large silver denominations.
