Obverse description At center of the field, the Argentine National Shield; arranged in a semicircle above, the municipal arms of the five host cities of the 1978 FIFA World Cup: Córdoba, Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires, Mendoza, and Rosario. Buenos Aires, the only designated city with two stadiums — Estadio Monumental (River Plate) and Estadio José Amalfitani (Vélez Sársfield) — is represented accordingly. The inscription ARGENTINA 78 appears in the exergue. The design is framed by a linear beaded border.
