The "Old seal" designation distinguishes this issue from the later P#450 series, which introduced a redesigned Banco de la República seal alongside updated security elements. The shift was part of a broader modernization effort in Colombian banknote production during the late 1990s, prompted in part by counterfeiting pressure on mid-denomination notes in circulation.

Printed domestically by the Banco de la República's own printing facility, this note is one of the few Colombian issues of the period produced entirely in-country without recourse to foreign security printers — a deliberate policy choice that had been in place since the early 1980s.
