Obverse description Conjoined busts of King Juan Carlos I and Crown Prince Felipe facing right, depicted in contemporary civilian dress with suits and ties, rendered in high relief against a polished field. The royal legend JUAN CARLOS I REY DE ESPAÑA curves along the upper periphery, with the date 1990 positioned in the lower exergue flanked by two raised dots. The double portrait composition presents the elder monarch slightly in front of the younger prince, conveying continuity of the Spanish monarchy. The design is executed in a realistic, modern sculptural style befitting a commemorative issue.
