Issued ahead of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, this piece belongs to the extensive Spanish commemorative program that the Real Casa de la Moneda ran throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s — one of the most prolific Olympic coin series produced by any host nation. Spain issued coins across multiple denominations and metals, with the silver 2000 pesetas tier handling several of the individual sport subjects.
