Reverse description The central vignette reproduces the ornamental gate of the Real Jardín Botánico (Royal Botanical Garden) in Madrid, executed in intaglio. To the right, a vignette reproduces the cover of Mutis's celebrated work on Cinchona trees, 'Historia de los Árboles de la Quina', flanked by the Spanish coat of arms and a fleur-de-lis motif. Fine guilloche underprint work frames the composition across the full field.
