| Reverse description | At center, Stockholm's oldest civic seal, dating to the 1280s, depicting a crenellated wall with two flanking towers surmounted by pinnacles, rendered in fine relief. The seal device is framed within a circular border, with the denomination and country name arranged around the periphery. Mint initial 'E' (for Eskilstuna) and the Riksbank Governor's initial 'B' flank the primary legend in the outer ring. |

Issued to mark Stockholm's 750th anniversary, this coin commemorates the city's founding traditionally dated to 1252, when Birger Jarl is credited with establishing a fortified settlement controlling the waterway between Lake Mälaren and the Baltic. The historical record is murkier than the round number suggests — no founding charter survives, and the 1252 date derives largely from a single letter referencing the town.
Sweden's commemorative gold program of this period produced strictly limited runs through Riksbanken, with pieces sold directly to collectors at issue price rather than circulated.
