Issued to mark the 150th anniversary of Selma Lagerlöf's birth, this coin commemorates Sweden's most internationally decorated author — the first woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, awarded in 1909. Lagerlöf had already appeared on the 20-kronor banknote since 1991, making this gold issue something of a second official canonization by the Swedish state.
The .900 fineness places it in line with classic European gold coinage standards rather than the .999 purity favored by most modern bullion programs — a deliberate choice for a collector piece meant to echo tradition.
