| Obverse description | A large stylised Gothic monogram letter 'B', rendered in bold blackletter script, occupies the central field of the obverse. The denomination '2000 KRONOR' and the country name 'SVERIGE' are inscribed in two lines at the lower portion of the field. A Latin legend arcs around the upper periphery reading 'GAUDE BIRGITTA FILIA CANTICUM TIBI DEBETUR GLORIE', translating as 'Rejoice O daughter Birgitta, for you are worthy of glorious songs of praise'. Small engraver's initials appear discreetly in the left and right fields flanking the monogram. Issued to mark the 700th anniversary of Birgitta Birgersdotter's birth, this coin sits in a small series of Swedish commemorative gold pieces authorized by the Riksbank in the early 2000s. Birgitta founded the Bridgettine Order in Vadstena in 1370 and was canonized in 1391 — one of only two Swedes ever recognized as a saint by the Roman Catholic Church, the other being her near-contemporary Sigfrid of Växjö.
The mintage was tightly limited, as with all Riksbank gold commemoratives of this period. Most examples went directly into collector hands without seeing a day of circulation.
