| Descrizione del rovescio | The reverse features a large inset jade disc (bi disc) at the centre, decorated with a gilt effigy of a standing rooster in high relief within its central aperture, and encircled by a gilded Chinese inscription reading good luck in the Year of the Rooster. Four engraved vignettes of roosters in various poses occupy the silver field at the cardinal points surrounding the jade disc. The Chinese characters 丁酉, denoting the cyclical year designation, appear in gilt at the top of the field, while the English legend THE YEAR OF THE ROOSTER arcs below the disc and the date 2017 is inscribed at the bottom. |

Laos has issued lunar calendar commemoratives with some regularity since the 1990s, largely targeting the Southeast Asian collector market and overseas diaspora. This piece is struck in the year of the Rooster, which in the 60-year Sino-Vietnamese sexagenary cycle fell in 2017 — the Fire Rooster year specifically, considered among the more auspicious iterations of the sign.
