| Descrizione del rovescio | Two highly detailed silver dragons in relief flank a central inset jade bi disc, a traditional Chinese auspicious ornament, which frames a gold-plated dragon in dynamic posture at its centre. Gold-gilt Chinese characters reading 壬辰 (Year of the Dragon, cyclical calendar designation) appear at the top of the field, with additional Chinese characters 龍年大吉大利 inscribed across the jade disc surface conveying wishes of great fortune. The Latin legend THE YEAR OF THE DRAGON curves along the lower inner border of the jade disc, and the date 2012 is positioned at the bottom of the field. The combination of silver, gold gilding, and genuine jade inlay gives this reverse an exceptionally rich multi-material appearance. |

Laos has issued collector-focused dragon coins with some regularity, typically timed to the 12-year zodiac cycle. The 2012 issue falls in the Year of the Dragon — the only sign in the Chinese zodiac occupied by a mythical rather than real animal, a distinction that has made dragon-year releases commercially attractive to Southeast Asian coin programs for decades. The Bank of the Lao PDR has leaned into this market aggressively, producing silver issues clearly aimed at regional collectors rather than domestic circulation.
