背面描述 Two Red-shanked Douc langurs (Pygathrix nemaeus) are depicted in naturalistic style, seated and resting upon a large tree branch that extends across the lower field; the larger adult animal faces right while a younger individual clings closely behind. The species name PYGATHRIX NEMAEUS arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering, and the date 2001 is inscribed in the lower exergual area. A reeded border frames the composition.

附加信息

The douc langur (*Pygathrix nemaeus*) featured on this issue was already under severe pressure by 2001, with populations across Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia decimated by the Vietnam War — U.S. defoliation campaigns destroyed vast stretches of its forest habitat, and the species was heavily hunted by all sides for food during the conflict. Laos produced several small-denomination gold wildlife issues in this period targeting the collector market, with mintages kept deliberately low to sustain demand.
