Obverse description Central motif depicts a dramatically rendered dinosaur egg in the process of hatching, its shell fractured into jagged shards radiating outward across the field in high relief. At the center of the broken shell, a large reptilian eye with a vertical slit pupil gazes forward with striking detail, evoking the imminent emergence of the predator. The legend REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 2000 FRANCS CFA and date 2024 are inscribed along the lower arc. The weight indicator 2 OZ appears to the left of the central motif, and the fineness mark Ag 999 to the right. The entire composition is struck in antique finish, enhancing the textural contrast between the smooth eye and the fragmented eggshell.

Reverse description A Tyrannosaurus Rex rendered in bold high relief occupies the full field, depicted in a dynamic lateral pose with jaws open wide, revealing serrated teeth, and the muscular body lowered in an aggressive or hunting stance. The creature's characteristic small forelimbs, powerful hindquarters, and massive tail curling toward the upper rim are meticulously detailed with textured, scale-like skin. A lush prehistoric background of fern fronds, cycad-like foliage, and scattered rocky fragments frames the composition. The species designation TYRANNOSAURUS REX is inscribed in a curved legend along the lower right quadrant of the field. The antique finish treatment lends depth and dramatic shadow to the sculptural relief.

Additional information

The Bank of Central African States issues coinage on behalf of six member nations — Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon — none of which have any geological connection to Cretaceous North American fauna. These dinosaur-themed bullion issues are produced explicitly for the collector export market, a revenue stream BEAC has leaned into aggressively since the early 2020s as commodity-dependent member economies sought alternative foreign currency inflows.
