Beschrijving voorzijde Central field depicts the Soviet Soyuz spacecraft in detailed relief, rendered in three-quarter perspective against a plain background scattered with small star devices. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE DE GUINEE arcs across the upper portion of the coin, while the inscription SOJUZ appears in the lower field, flanked by dashes. The spacecraft's solar panels and cylindrical modules are rendered with fine engraving detail characteristic of the proof strike.

Aanvullende informatie

Guinea issued this coin in 1970 to commemorate the Soyuz program at a moment when Sékou Touré's government maintained unusually warm ties with the Soviet Union — a relationship cemented after France withdrew all aid and personnel overnight in 1958 following Guinea's vote for independence. Soviet technical and financial support filled that vacuum almost immediately, making a gold commemorative honoring Soviet space achievements a pointed diplomatic statement as much as a numismatic exercise.

The .900 fine gold specification matches the standard used across Guinea's 1970 commemorative series, several of which were struck at the Monnaie de Paris under contract.
