| 背面描述 | The reverse displays a dramatic three-dimensional sculptural effigy of Saint Matthias, the apostle martyred by stoning, depicted in high relief emerging from a pile of rocks at the base of the wooden frame. The saint is shown as a bearded, muscular male figure, his body partially bound and surrounded by scattered stones, his head thrown back in an expression of anguish, evoking the moment of his martyrdom. A heavy chain is draped along the left column of the frame. The arched pediment at the top of the frame bears the inscription ST. MATTHIAS in cursive lettering, serving as the principal legend of the reverse. |

Saint Matthias, chosen by lot to replace Judas Iscariot among the twelve apostles, appears in Scripture almost exclusively in that single passage in Acts — making him one of the most historically elusive figures in early Christianity. The Bank of Central African States has issued collector silver in this format before, typically through licensing arrangements with European minting houses rather than domestic production, as the BEAC member states have no silver refining or striking capacity of their own.
