Beschrijving keerzijde Richly coloured high-relief depiction of Maat, the ancient Egyptian goddess of truth and justice, shown seated in three-quarter view at the prow of a ceremonial barque amid blue waters. The goddess is portrayed with large outstretched black wings, wearing a white linen kilt, broad collar, and armlets rendered in selective gold gilding; her characteristic white ostrich feather adorns a solar disc nimbus behind her. In her raised right hand she holds a gilded was-sceptre topped with a winged scarab, and in her left a gilded ankh. The background features antique-finished high-relief vignettes of Egyptian temples, pyramids, a camel, palm fronds, and hieroglyph-covered stone panels. The legend 'MAAT' arcs across the upper border in raised Latin letters.

Aanvullende informatie

The Bank of Central African States issues commemorative coinage denominated in CFA francs but struck well outside the economic reality of the currency zone — a 62.2g silver piece bears no relationship to anything circulating in Cameroon, Chad, or the Republic of Congo. These are collector issues licensed through third-party minting programs, effectively using the BEAC imprimatur as a legal denomination wrapper while the coins are distributed entirely through the European and North American numismatic market. Maat, the Egyptian concept of cosmic order and justice, has no historical connection to Central Africa.
