Hungary marked the centenary of the Armistice as a nation with particular cause for reflection — the war's end brought not just defeat but the 1920 Treaty of Trianon, which stripped the Kingdom of Hungary of roughly two-thirds of its pre-war territory and one-third of its ethnic Hungarian population. No other combatant nation lost proportionally more. This copper-nickel commemorative was issued into general circulation rather than as a collector-only piece, a deliberate policy choice by the Magyar Nemzeti Bank to keep the centenary in public hands.
