Croatia's 1992 currency rollout was rapid by any standard — the country had declared independence in June 1991 and needed a functioning monetary system before international recognition fully solidified. Tumba Bruk, the Swedish state printer with roots going back to the mid-eighteenth century, handled several of the early Croatian issues during this compressed timeline.
Zlatko Jakuš designed and engraved this note himself, an unusual concentration of creative control for a denomination of this size. Watermark security alone was thin even by early-1990s standards, and the 2000 Dinar denomination quickly became obsolete — hyperinflationary pressure in the former Yugoslav successor states made large-denomination notes short-lived almost by definition.
