Issued on the 65th anniversary of the April 1943 uprising, this coin commemorates the armed resistance mounted by Jewish fighters inside the sealed Warsaw Ghetto — the largest single act of Jewish resistance during the German occupation of Poland. The uprising lasted nearly a month before German forces under SS-Obergruppenführer Jürgen Stroop systematically demolished the ghetto block by block to suppress it.
The National Bank of Poland has maintained a long-running commemorative gold program tied to significant dates in Polish-Jewish history. Mintage for issues in this series has typically been tightly controlled, keeping secondary market premiums firm over spot.
