Obverse description The obverse features a richly detailed allegorical composition commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Polish oil and gas industry. In the lower right field, the Polish state eagle — crowned, with wings displayed — is rendered in high relief. To the left, a stylised natural gas flame rises from rocky ground, flanked by a nodding-donkey oil pump jack. In the upper right, an industrial refinery complex with towers and pipework occupies the field. The legend RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA arcs along the upper right rim, while the commemorative inscription 150-LECIE NARODZIN PRZEMYSŁU NAFTOWEGO I GAZOWNICZEGO is arranged in five lines to the left. The denomination 200 ZŁ and the date 2003 appear in the lower left field, with the mint mark MW below.

Reverse description The reverse presents a finely engraved portrait of Ignacy Łukasiewicz (1822–1882), the Polish pharmacist and pioneer of the modern petroleum industry, depicted in three-quarter view facing left, with a beard and period attire, his hand resting beside a kerosene lamp rendered in meticulous detail at the centre-right of the field. Behind the lamp, stylised flames radiate outward in a decorative arc, evoking the invention of the kerosene lamp on 31 July 1853. The date 31·VII·1853 is inscribed in the upper field. Along the lower rim, the legend IGNACY ŁUKASIEWICZ 1822–1882 is incused in a straight line.
