Additional information

Ladislaus I Herman ruled Poland from 1079 to 1102, ascending after the forced exile of his brother Bolesław II — whose murder of Bishop Stanisław of Szczepanów had made him politically untenable across Catholic Europe. The Herman commemorative series placed him in a broader program of medievally-themed 200 Złotych issues that the Polish Mint developed through the late Communist period, when historical Polish kingship was a politically safer subject than more recent history.

Trial strikes for this type were produced in .750 silver rather than the .625 used for circulation examples, distinguishing them compositionally from standard proof issues. The ParM and Fischer cross-references confirm at least two documented trial variants for this design.
