Trial strikes — próby — from the NBP in this period occupy a genuinely awkward position in Polish numismatics: produced under a Communist government issuing coins commemorating medieval Piast dynasty rulers, a deliberate appeal to pre-partition national identity during the years Solidarity was upending the political order. Ladislaus I Herman ruled from 1079 to 1102, a reign defined largely by his dependence on Bohemian military support and his sidelining of the nobility.
The .750 fineness distinguishes this trial from the regular business strike, which was produced in .625 silver. Relatively few próby of this type survived outside institutional collections.
