Reverse description A three-quarter facing effigy of Kazimierz I Odnowiciel (Casimir I the Restorer, reigned 1039–1058), depicted as a mediaeval sovereign wearing an ornate crown surmounted by a cross, and richly draped in embroidered royal robes. He holds a sceptre topped with a trefoil orb in his left hand, the shaft resting against his shoulder. The legend KAZIMIERZ I ODNOWICIEL is inscribed across the upper field, divided to left and right of the figure, with the regnal dates 1039-1058 appearing in the lower exergue. The word PRÓBA (trial/proof) is inscribed vertically to the right of the portrait, identifying this piece as a pattern strike. The portrait is modelled in bold sculptural relief, characteristic of the medallic engraving style of Stanisława Wątróbska-Frindt.
