Trial strikes from Mennica Polska in this period were produced to test dies and planchet specifications before authorizing full production runs — they were never intended for circulation or public sale, and most were retained internally or distributed through official channels to select collectors and institutions. The 1979 commemorative program honoring Mieszko I, the tenth-century Piast ruler who consolidated the Polish state and accepted Latin Christianity in 966, was among the more politically freighted series of the late People's Republic era, with the communist government selectively invoking medieval national identity while suppressing the Catholic Church that Mieszko's baptism had inaugurated.
The .750 fineness is atypical for Polish collector silver of this period, which more commonly ran at .625 or .999.
