Additional information

This piece belongs to a short run of trial strikes produced by the Polish Mint as the NBP evaluated designs and alloys for the commemorative 200-złoty program honoring Bolesław I — the Piast duke who was crowned Poland's first king in 1025, likely at Gniezno, in a ceremony that also served as diplomatic recognition by Holy Roman Emperor Otto III. The nickel trial was ultimately rejected in favor of a different specification for the circulation commemorative issue.
