| 背面描述 | The central device displays the heraldic emblem of the University of Warsaw — an eagle surmounted above a laurel-framed shield bearing the university's insignia — positioned above a detailed relief of a decorative fragment of the historic main gate on Krakowskie Przedmieście street. To the left, an architectural element of the building housing the faculties of Modern Languages and Applied Linguistics on Dobra street is rendered in the field. The commemorative inscription arcs across the coin, identifying the 200th anniversary of the university's founding. |

The University of Warsaw was founded in 1816 by Tsar Alexander I, who established it as a tool of Russian imperial policy in the Kingdom of Poland — a calculated move to channel Polish intellectual energy into loyalist institutions rather than nationalist ones. It backfired considerably. The university became a persistent center of resistance, shut down entirely after the November Uprising of 1830 and again after the January Uprising of 1863, not reopening in any meaningful form until Polish independence in 1915.
The .900 gold composition places this squarely in NBP's standard collector gold program, struck in limited quantities for the commemorative market rather than circulation.
