The He Zun is an early Western Zhou bronze vessel discovered in 1963 in Baoji, Shaanxi — notable for containing the earliest known written reference to the concept of "Zhongguo" (中国), meaning "central state," a term now synonymous with China itself. That inscription, dated to approximately 1043 BC under King Cheng, gives this artifact an outsized political resonance that explains its recurring appearance in Chinese commemorative coinage.
