Part of a four-coin gold series issued in 2001 celebrating Chinese folk mythology, this piece depicts the creation deity credited in Chinese cosmogony with separating heaven and earth from primordial chaos. The Pan Gu myth, while ancient in concept, wasn't committed to written form until the Three Kingdoms period — relatively late for a foundational creation narrative.
