| 表面の説明 | Central depiction of the Yellow Crane Tower (黄鹤楼), a celebrated ancient Chinese pavilion rendered in fine relief with multiple eaved tiers rising above a decorative gateway and flanking ornamental trees. Stylized clouds frame the architectural composition on either side. The legend 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) arcs around the upper periphery in Chinese characters. The date 2003 appears in the lower exergual area. The overall design conveys classical Chinese architectural artistry in a polished gold field. |

Part of a long-running Chinese Mint commemorative series celebrating traditional folk narratives, the 2003 issue drew from stories that had circulated orally for centuries before being standardized in print during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The People's Bank of China authorized several denominations within this release, with the 200 Yuan gold piece sitting at the mid-tier of the set.
Mintages for these folk tale gold issues were tightly controlled and largely absorbed by domestic collectors at issuance, meaning genuine secondary-market circulation essentially never occurred.
